THE DUI PROCESS

The DMV is a daunting process that is highly inconvenient, but we're here to help you figure it out.

REINSTATING YOUR COLORADO DRIVERS LICENSE

A Colorado driver whose license has been suspended or revoked must go through a reinstatement process to have their driving privilege restored. This process can only be initiated after the conditions of the revocation or suspension have been satisfied. So, what might you be looking at?

You took a Blood or breath test

You are eligible to get your license back immediately after it is revoked. The requirements to get your license back will depend on several factors like whether an accident occurred, whether your BAC was over a .15, and if you've had any prior offenses. Drivers with a CDL should contact us immediately as the results are far more severe.

Regardless of most of the factors, you will be able to get your license back immediately. However, the length of each requirement will vary.

You refused to take a test

Unfortunately, your license may be revoked for 60 days without any driving at all (no probationary license). You will also be required to enroll in Level II Education and Treatment. Your interlock and SR-22 requirements will be longer as well.

Next Steps to getting your license back

The following will need to be submitted to the DMV in order to get a clearance letter. You can submit the documents online at mydmv.colorado.dov and selecting Driver/ID Services. Or, you can drop them off in-person at the Lakewood Motor Vehicle Officer at 1881 Pierce St., Lakewood, CO 80214. Once everything is received, the DMV will issue you a clearance letter. You will take the clearance letter to your local DMV to schedule a written and physical driver exam.

The following will be required:

Application for Reinstatement – Form DR 2870
Certificate – Form DR 2598
Interlock Agreement Affidavit – Form DR 2058
Affidavit of Enrollment in Level II Drug and Alcohol Education & Treatment (*required if your BAC is above .15 or you refused)
Proof of SR-22 Insurance
$95 Reinstatement Fee
