The DMV is a daunting process that is highly inconvenient, but we're here to help you figure it out.
You only have 7 days to request a DMV hearing after you are stopped! If you do not request the hearing, you cannot challenge the revocation of your license. There are several ways to request a hearing:
1) Go to mydmv.colorado.gov, click on Driver/ID Services, click on Request a Hearing, and then follow the instructions for an Express Consent Hearing;
2) Email dor_hearingrequest@state.co.us the following: “I, [insert your full name], request an Express Consent hearing with the officer present. My drivers license number is [insert license #] and my birthday is [insert birth date and year].”
It is important to know that the DMV will use whatever address is currently on file for your license. If you have moved or updated your address, please visit dmv.colorado.gov/change-your-address to get your address current.
**If you took a blood test, you cannot request a hearing until after your blood results are received. The DMV will mail you a notice that your blood results have been received and you have 7 days to request the hearing from that date. This process can take several months but be sure to diligently check your mail for the notice.**
Make sure you receive an automated response from the DMV for your request. If you do not receive one, your request was likely not done correctly. The hearing may be scheduled later, but should be scheduled within 60 days of your request, absent good cause.
